What is the Presage® ST2 Assay and how does it fit into my medical care?
As cardiovascular disease and heart failure progress, different chemicals, called biomarkers, are released by the heart as it meets these increased demands. One of these biomarkers is called ST2. The Presage ST2 Assay measures the level of ST2 in your blood.
The level of ST2 in your blood rises when your heart is having trouble, and may be remodeling (re-shaping) or becoming less effective. By measuring the level of ST2 in your blood, your physician can understand how your heart is responding to your body’s normal demand. In addition, your physician can better predict how your cardiovascular disease is likely to progress. With a better understanding of your risk level for serious adverse changes to your overall health due to your heart failure, your physician may be able to tailor your medical care more appropriately.
